Novisal is currently working with C.A.C. Industries in support of MTA Constructions and Development Project #C80284 involving the rehabilitation, painting and structural repairs of the Stapleton Viaduct, Staten Island Railway (SIR) Bridges and seven SIR stations. Novisal is providing Site Safety Services.
Estimated to take about 4 years and cost close to $100 Million, the project is focused on two main areas of improvement on the Staten Island Railway portion of the MTA’s rail system—much needed structural repairs on rail bridges and the Stapleton Viaduct and improvements to stations.
The Stapleton Viaduct & SIR Bridge work includes:
- Concrete crack and spall repairs, installing a waterproofing membrane, and replacing deck joints on the Stapleton Viaduct
- Structural steel repairs, concrete crack and spall repairs, waterproofing, deck joint replacement, and structural steel painting to the Garretson Ave Bridge
- Structural steel repairs, concrete crack and spall repairs, and painting of existing steel members on seven unnamed SIR bridges
The SIR Station Repair Program involves:
Improvements across seven stations—St. George, Stapleton, Grasmere, Old Town, Dongan Hills, Grant City, and Oakwood Heights) that includes:
- Concrete spall and crack repairs
- Platform replacements and stair repairs or replacements
- Expansion joint work and control house repairs
- Fire standpipe replacements, component painting, and drainage system work
The construction work is scheduled to start in the Fall of 2026. Current preparation involves developing Site-Specific EHS documents such as the HASP, JHAs and SWPs.
